Dr. Andrew Egol, 60, of Pembroke Pines, FL, passed away Thursday, August 19, 2010 at his home, surrounded by love and support. Beloved fiance of Valerie Carver; cherished father to Jessica (Jeffrey) Adelman and Jared Egol; adored Papa to grandchildren Benjamin and Jacob Adelman; diligent brother to Lewis and Mandy Egol; bright-smiled support to numerous friends and relatives near and far, and angel to the countless individuals who received his care in the hospital. He was a steadfast clinician, a marksman with differential diagnosis and a human of inextinguishable warmth. He earned his D.O. at the Chicago School of Osteopathic Medicine, completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Brown University, and did a Fellowship in Critical Care Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh. He moved to Miami in 1982 to work at Baptist Hospital of Miami, where he became one of the preeminent authorities on the ethics of medical futility and end-of-life care. He was active in the field he loved, saving lives at Wellington Regional up until the last month of his own. Never far from his inner child, he balanced his years of long hours and commitments to medical emergency with a tireless passion for family, diners, movies, comic books, doo wop and laughter. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made in Loving Memory of Dr. Andrew Egol c/o Memorial Foundation, MHW Oncology, 3711 Garfield Street, Hollywood FL 33021. A celebration of life service will take place 4:00 PM Wednesday, August 25th at Levitt-Weinstein Memorial Chapel, 3201 NW 72nd Avenue, Hollywood, FL 33024.
