I got the call Tuesday morning, a call I didn’t want hear. Our friend Ellen Green was gone. As I froze in disbelief, all the memories of her came to me. Flying through my brain were the images of her delivering a punch line, (she called me “Tons of Fun”) a smart-ass come back or a punctuation of a story. She always spoke the truth and you could never bullshit her (she saw right through that). The laughter, (oh how she could make you laugh) the nights at the Bourbon Barrel, the Oak Beech Inn, my 1 st apartment and all the concerts we went to with Margaret, Denise, Prissie, Scott, Garry and me in tow. What a blast!
At the 30 th reunion, I spent most of the night with Ellen and can only remember how funny she was. She still had it. I will always cherish that night.
Matt, I heard this from Chris Green who heard it from Denise Nelson... quite obviously, the grapevine stays strong with time. Sorry to have been a stranger - we will have lunch - I am so grateful you could share those Ellen Green memories. My Bill read a science fiction story in which people stayed alive in an alternate universe IF they were remembered in the mind of a person still living on the earth. How sweet would it be for the fabulous collective memory of our classmates if this could be so! Katie K. xoxo
This news really hurts. I've known Ellen since 3rd grade, maybe earlier. And Matt, you're absolutely right - Ellen was also the life of our Homeroom 213, always in the thick of things. One of the most down to earth ladies I've known.
