Does any one remember Jeffery Lundstadt? In the back of our year book is a dedication to three alumni who were killed during the Viet Nam war, Wodrow Knapp, kenney Dyke, and Juffery Lundstadt. I know where the first two are but havent been able to locate jeff, What year did he graduate or branch of service
Jeff has a scholarship in art in his name and most likely, Dr. Shea, school superintendent can tell you more, email me and I will give you his email address.
Fritzie asked I know where the first two are but havent been able to locate jeff, What year did he graduate or branch of service
Fritzie, when you and I spoke months ago, I did some digging on Jeff Lundstedt.
Jeff served as a civilian in Vietnam with the organization called USAID, which
focused on relief efforts. As a civilian, his name does not appear on the Vietnam
Memorial Wall - but it does appear on a Memorial Plaque in the C Street Lobby of
the Truman Building in Washington DC.
At the age of 26, he was killed during the Tet Offensive on Hue in January of 1968. Jeffrey Lunstedt was a 1960 graduate of WWHS.
I am Jeff's nephew. If anyone knew my uncle and could tell me more about him I would love to hear.
Thanks,
Justin Lundstedt

I found this exchange almost by accident. Jeff was a high school friend of mine at Walt Whitman High School, but I graduated the year before in 1959. Jeff and I were favorites of art teacher, Russell Orlando, just before Orlando rose to assistant and then Principal of Whitman High School. Ms. Fritzie summary is correct. Russell provided me with some of the details of Jeff's passing when I visited him in 1969. He said that Jeff had become a 'conscientious objector' during the Vietnam War but committed himself to serve his country in a civilian capacity by working on relief efforts for the Vietnamese people through the USAID program, and as Ms. Fritzie states, he was killed in the city of Hue during the Viet Cong/North Vietnamese 'Tet Offensive' in January 1968. At the time of my visit, Orlando informed me of the scholarship and showed me the plaque he placed in the lobby of the now original southeast wing of the high school.
