My son is sitting here with me as I'm telling him about the Reunion and Henry, being an Extreme Entrepreneur, of course wants to know if anyone I graduated with went on to do any 'wild' or 'crazy' or 'successful' things!
Well, Lori, I don't know what Henry considers 'wild' - but I had a difficult
time explaining to the USAF Base Commander in West Berlin how I managed to
wander into East Germany one night in 1973. I was picked up by two GDR
military police who were mumbling between themselves about 'all the dreaded
paperwork' - and they hauled me into a subway that transported me safely back to the Western side of the Wall. Such was the danger in having one too many mugs of Schultheiss and not paying attention to the warning signs. The same commander sent me a framed certificate in the 90's, congratulating me for having bravely faced the enemy under duress - it's a laughable document but a fond memory on my office wall...
MY 'crazy' award goes to our own Wally Heinsohn who attempted to row
across Long Island Sound in a bathtub. I've heard two rumors reagrding Wally's fate: 1) he made it across, and 2) he was rescued by the Coast Guard off Norwalk, CT. If we can just FIND Wally, we can learn the truth of it.
