Do you know that there is a website in which you may look up old Long Islander (Huntington) newspapers and find your name or your relatives from long ago as well as friends and neighbors? I do, and have found many unknown facts about my family members and have seen names of classmates' relatives. Check it out:
suffolk library system maintains searchable digital archives of Long islander from 1838. I'm not sure how far they have gotten digitizing the newspapers -- it's dependent on government funding.
go to http://www.suffolkhistoricnewspapers.org/ and do an advanced search.

Diana!  This is STUPENDOUS!  I typed in my maiden name, and not only did I find wonderful articles about my Mom, who was involved with the Huntington Historical Society, but also my brother and my self, PLUS found out that some distant Fahnestock was very involved with providing people with VERMIFUGE, which was evidently a terrific solution to TAPE WORMS.  ?!?!??!  What fun, thank you for the link!!!  Katie K.
