Genevieve E. Jonte, a former resident of Huntington, New York, for 39 years, passed away in Bradenton, Florida on December 4, 2009. She was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, then moved to New York state after high school. She completed her education at Saint Elizabeth College, Morristown, New Jersey and Teachers College, Columbia University, New York. For 32 years, she was a foreign language teacher and supervisor at South Huntington Schools on Long Island. At Walt Whitman High School, she introduced innovative teaching methods through use of a language laboratory and she prepared special advanced courses. She was the recipient of a double Fulbright Grant to France to participate in a summer seminar and to spend a year teaching in France. She wrote the Teachers Manual for a 2-level McGraw-Hill French textbook and then, as a consultant, visited schools nationwide using that text. She also spent time on leave in New Zealand and Australia meeting foreign language teachers there and speaking to students in teacher training institutions. After retiring and moving to Florida in 1984, she continued her dual hobbies of world travel and photography. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery in Huntington, New York.
